    • Diane Keaton has died at 79.
    • Keaton became a Hollywood icon throughout her decadeslong career.
    • She won her first Oscar in 1978 for “Annie Hall.”

Academy Award winner Diane Keaton has died at 79.

Born in Los Angeles, Keaton got her start performing in high school plays before cementing herself as both a Hollywood and style icon in 1977, when she starred in “Annie Hall.”

Over the years, Keaton continued to act in much-loved films, like “Father of the Bride.” She also ventured into other passions. She authored a memoir, created a wine brand, and even flipped houses.

Here’s a look at her long career.

Keaton appeared on Broadway in the ’60s.

In her 2011 memoir, “Then Again,” Keaton said she scored a role in the original Broadway production of “Hair” in 1968. That same year, she auditioned and landed a lead role in Woody Allen’s Broadway play, “Play It Again, Sam.” Allen’s play premiered in 1969, and Keaton received a Tony nomination for her role.

“Play it Again, Sam” later became a film in 1972.

Keaton rose to fame with her role in “The Godfather.”

Keaton played Kay Adams-Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 film, “The Godfather,” which debuted to critical and commercial acclaim. Al Pacino and Marlon Brando also appeared in the film.

Although Keaton herself did not receive an award for “The Godfather,” the film took home several trophies that year. Keaton reprised her role in two subsequent films, “The Godfather II” and “The Godfather III.”

“Annie Hall” became Keaton’s breakthrough film.

Keaton struck gold with “Annie Hall,” a 1977 film directed by Woody Allen. The film catapulted her career and earned her an Academy Award in 1978 for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Over five decades, Keaton starred in numerous films.

Finding success with “Annie Hall” was only the beginning for Keaton, who continued to star in well-known films like “Reds,” “Father of the Bride,” “The First Wives Club,” “Marvin’s Room,” and “Something’s Gotta Give.”

Keaton has been nominated for numerous awards, including BAFTAs, Oscars, and Emmys.

In 2004, she won Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy for “Something’s Gotta Give.”

    Keaton has authored several books.

During her career, Keaton also published a handful of books.

In addition to her 2011 memoir, “Then Again,” Keaton also published “Let’s Just Say It Wasn’t Pretty” in 2014, “The House that Pinterest Built” in 2017, and “Brother & Sister: A Memoir” in 2020, among other titles. Keaton also showed off her photography skills in “Saved: My Picture World” and “California Romantica.”

In 2015, Keaton unveiled a wine brand.

Keaton unveiled her wine brand, The Keaton, in a 2015 Twitter post.

“It’s here. Don’t forget the ice. Cheers,” she wrote.

A label on the bottle described The Keaton as a “robust red blend.” Keaton released a white wine in 2016, according to Wine Spectator.

Keaton became known for her bold, red-carpet outfits and, above all, her hats. Keaton attended the 2004 Academy Awards, for example, in a Ralph Lauren suit paired with a bowler hat.
